MR. CHRISTOPHER WHEELAHAN. It is our sad duty to record the pass ing of another old and very highly esteemed resident of the Macleay in the person of Mr. Christopher Wheela- han, of Mungay Creek, at the age of 67 years. The deceased gentleman, who was born at Port Arlington, Queen 's County, Ireland, came to Australia when 29 years of age, and after living in Sydney for twelve months, came to the Macleay, and settled at Mungay Creek, where he successfully engaged in farn- ing operations. His genial disposition, generosity and fine sense of citizenship and all that the word in its fullest sense implies, soon made him a firm favorite, and he has passed to his rest honored and respected by everyone in the district. The name of Christopher Wheelahan was synonymous with that of what is regarded as a manly man, and well he merited the title, for no call found him unresponsve, no de mand unready. Soon after his arrival in this district he married Miss Mar garet Cavanagh, daughter of Mr. Char les Cavanagh (the patriarchal pioneer of Mungay Creek), by whom and a family of 5 sons and 10 daughters he is survived. Mr. Wheelahan was in his usual health until about a fortnight ago, when he developed pneumonia, upon which heart trouble supervened and caused his demise at 1 a.m. on Sat urday last. The remains were brought to Kempsey on Monday and, following upon a service in the R.C. Church at 2 p.m., the funeral proceeded to the West Kempsey Cemetery, where Rev. Father Morris officiated in the presence of a concourse that in its representa- tive character, emphasised the high es teem in which he, and the remainder of his family, are held by the people of the district. Deceased is survived by his widow, 5 sons and 10 daughters, these being Messrs. Bernard (Dele gate), Joseph (Sydney) and Jack, Char les and Christopher Wheelahan (Mun gay Creek), Mesdames T. Whitty (Mun- gay Creek), Kilduff (Sydney) and e. Dykes (Kempsey), Misses Ethel, Mar- garet and Annie (Sydney), Lizzie, Kate, Alice and Bridget Wheelahan (Mungay Creek). District friends will join in extending deep sympathy to the family in their bereavement. Deceased having been a very old member of the H.A.C.B.S., brethren of that order re presenting the Kempsey, Smithtown and Willawarrin branches, attended the funeral in regalia, and four offi cers carried the coffin from the church to the hearse and from the hearse to the graveside.
