      Mrs. Val Conlon.
The death of Mrs. Val Conlon, at Cowra,
was a great shock to the community, by
whom she was held in deep affection. She
was a victim of complications following
an attack of influenza. Much sympathy is
felt for her husband, and four little chil-
      dren — Frank (6 years). Pat (5), Bede (4),
and John, only 7 weeks old. The late Mrs.
Conlon, who was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
      R. V. P. Flanagan, well known residents of
Canowindra, was born there 33 years ago.
She afterwards resided with her parents,
her father, being postmaster at Liver-
pool, Balmain, and many country places,
including Ganmain. In the latter town she
was married to Mr. Val. Conlon, son of
Mr. and Mrs. J. Conlon, of Randwick. Mrs.
Conlon was of a sterling character, and of
a loving, obliging and self-sacrificing dis
position. She was a valuable help to the
local church, where, as a member of the
choir, her vocal ability was ap
preciated. She was visited by the local
Sisters of St. Joseph (one of whom is a
near relative), and attended by the Rev.
      Fathers N. Cooney, P.P., and J. McGrath,
from whom she received all the consola-
tions of holy religion. Her remains were
taken to St. Edward's Church, Canowindra,
where the prayers for the dead were re
cited by Rev. Dr. O. Emelhainz. Numerous
floral tributes and many hundreds of let-
ters and telegrams of sympathy were re-
ceived by the bereaved family. A
      long concourse of mourners (re-
latives from far and wide) was
present, and the funeral cortege was the
largest seen in the district for years. Rev.
Dr. Emelhainz again recited the pray-
ers at the graveside. Besides her husband
and children, the late Mrs. Conlon is sur
vived by her sister Vera, and her grand
      mothers, Mrs. Marshall, of Canowindra,
and Mrs. Byrnes, of Goolagong. — R.I.P.
