THE LATE MR. WILLIAM
KEOGH
Mr. William Darcy Keogh died re
cently at the home of his son-in-law,
Mr. J. F. Gippel, Cree Bank, Vacy,
within a fortnight of his 86th birth
day.
Deceased, who was widely known
and respected throughout the district,
was born at Dungog and was the
third son of the late John and Bridget
Keogh.
When a youth, the family left Dun
gog and took up residence at Vacy on
a property now owned by Mr. A. C.
Somerville. Here, he and his two bro
thers engaged in a blacksmithing
business for many years and he later
established his own business in the
town of Vacy, where he lived till within two years of his death.
He was an expert tradesman and
before the advent of American mach
inery his ploughs won many prizes at
the district shows.
In earlier life he was a keen sports
man and will be remembered for his
prowess as a cricketer and fisherman,
also for his talent as a musician. He
also raced horses succsfully on the
old Vacy and Mount River courses.
He married Ellen Winifred, daugh
ter of the late Edward and Anne
Kealy, of Summer Hill, Vacy, who
predeceased him by six years. He
leaves two daughters, Mrs. J. F. Gip
pel (Cree Bank, Vacy), Mrs. T. V.
Richardson (Binglebrah, East Gres
ford), one son Darcy (Newcastle), one
brother, Vincent (Bunna Bunnoo,
Vacy), and two grandchildren. Four
sisters and two brothers predeceased
him.
The funeral, which was large and
representative, left the Sacred Heart
Church, Summer Hill, for interment
n the Catholic cemetery, Summer
Hill. Rev. Father T. Quigley attended
him during his last illness and also
