One of the most highly esteemed and popu-
      lar residents of North Richmond, Henry Ste-;
venson, passed away on Saturday night, at
the age of 68 years, after some ten years'
of suffering from rheumatism, during the
greater portion of which time he was unable
to move from his bed. The late Henry Ste-
venson took a keen interest in matters for
the welfare of the district. He was for many
years an active worker on the Council of the
H.D.A. Association, and his advice in matters
pertaining to the fruit sections at the Show
was often sought and invariably adopted.
In politics he was most enthusiastic in the
bitter struggles of days gone by. He was a
staunch supporter of the Bowman party, and'
carried a great deal of weight and influence.
When the Liberal Party formed he was one of
its most energetic supporters, and took a
keen interest in political matters generally.
For a number of years the late Henry Stev-
enson was the licensee of the Travellers'
Rest (now the Riverview) Hotel at North
Richmond. He was a model publican and
a genial host. He leaves a widow, who is
a daughter of the late William Penton, one
son and one daughter. His son, William,
who is a prosperous agent in the Sydney
Fruit Markets, is widely known and highly
respected throughout this district. He was
formerly a keen cricketer, and, like his father,
a thorough gentleman. The daughter, Miss
Bessie Stevenson, lives at home. Mr. Ed-
ward Stevenson and Mrs. William Biddle
of Richmond, are brother and sister of de-
ceased. The funeral took place on Monday,
and was one of the largest seen in Kurra-
jong, which bore eloquent testimony to the
great respect in which the late Mr. Steven-
son was held, and of the sympathy the peo- ,
ple of the district had for the bereaved
wife and family. The remains were buried
in the Church of England cemetery at Rich-
mond. Rev. Stanley Best (Rector) assist-
ed by Rev. H. Tate, of Kurrajong, conducted
the last sad rites at the grave. Mr. Tate
paid an eloquent tribute to the life of the
deceased, whom he had known for many
years, and expressed his sincere sympathy
with the bereaved family. The members of
the M.U. Order of Oddfellows, Richmond, of
which lodge deceased was a member, march-
ed in the procession. The funeral was con-
      ducted by Mr. A. Price.
